Magistrate Court Release Role
Pocahontas County Magistrate Court handles misdemeanors, preliminary felony proceedings, and initial bond. Its case record may show a bond type and amount, modifications, dismissal, plea, sentence, credit, or an order sending a felony matter forward. Those entries explain legal authority. They do not certify the later physical release from TVRJCF or another WVDCR placement.
A bond order is one step. Staff may still need to verify payment or surety, review other holds, and process the jail exit. Personal recognizance means release under a promise and stated terms rather than cash bond. It is not an acquittal. A felony preliminary matter can move to Circuit Court while custody continues or bond remains in force.
Search Magistrate Release Records
The official Court Record Access hub links the Magistrate Case Record Search. Search the person, select the Pocahontas County result, and record the exact case number. The search warns that online information may be incomplete or inaccurate and directs users to the filing clerk for validation.
Use this order of work:
- Identify the correct person and Pocahontas magistrate case.
- Review entries for initial appearance, bond, modification, dismissal, plea, sentence, credit, or transfer to Circuit Court.
- Ask the Magistrate Clerk for the signed order when the entry alone is unclear.
- Search the WVDCR Jails interface for the associated custody record.
- Request the terminal movement, date, time, type, and destination if physical release must be confirmed.
The separate West Virginia payment portal searches exact citations, cases, or payment-plan IDs and may charge its stated transaction fee. That is a payment-system charge, not a general court-search fee. Do not treat a payment portal hit as the full docket or as proof that jail release occurred.

Magistrate Bond Release Records
Bond allows release while a case continues, subject to the order’s terms. A cash, surety, or recognizance arrangement does not decide guilt and does not end the case. Record the bond type, amount if relevant, modification date, and signed order. Then confirm whether the jail processed a community exit or whether another hold prevented it.

Do not substitute the order date for the release timestamp. A late-day order can be processed later. Likewise, a person can leave TVRJCF on a transfer or writ rather than enter the community.
Note: A bond order authorizes a possible release but does not alone establish the exact physical exit from WVDCR custody.

The official Pocahontas County Magistrate Court page identifies the clerk and offices. A focused request should state the exact case number and seek the docket plus signed documents that bear on custody. These may include bond, recognizance, modification, dismissal, sentence, jail-credit, probation, or transfer orders.

No fixed local clerk hours or copy charges were verified. Call first. Ask whether electronic delivery is available and whether the clerk can validate an online entry. A confidential, juvenile, sealed, or expunged matter may not be publicly available.
Send a separate request to WVDCR for the actual custody event. Name the person, date of birth, OID if known, institution, and date range. Ask for the terminal movement, actual release date and time, movement method, destination, and any receiving agency.

It does not display a person’s order or custody status. Use the case search and clerk record for the legal event, then use WVDCR for physical release. That two-source match is especially important when the case was sent to Circuit Court.
Magistrate WVDCR Release Match
Pocahontas County adults commonly enter Tygart Valley Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, which is in Randolph County. Search the official WVDCR Offender Search hub and select Jails. Daily Incarcerations is only an active snapshot and must not be called a release list.
Match the jail record with full legal name, aliases, date of birth, OID, and institution where shown. If a person leaves the active view, ask for the OIS terminal movement. A no-match can reflect a transfer, lag, spelling issue, full discharge, sealing, or another custodian. It does not mean “released.”

If the movement names a prison, use the Prisons search. If it names USMS or ICE, use the receiving federal authority. Report the event as a transfer until a source confirms community release.
Magistrate Release Record Limits
Online magistrate data can be incomplete, and public access can change after expungement. Under West Virginia law, a qualifying dismissal or acquittal may support an expungement petition after the applicable period. Qualifying convictions follow separate waiting periods and eligibility rules. After a grant, public electronic data and index references can be removed.
A no-match in the Magistrate Case Record Search therefore cannot prove no case or custody existed. It may also reflect a search error or confidential matter. The clerk is the validation source, while WVDCR records answer the institutional movement.
Neither court data nor WVDCR daily pages provide an official rolling Pocahontas 24-hour or 72-hour release archive. For a recent event, save the current result, check the court order, use VINE for status corroboration, and request the terminal movement.
Magistrate Release Custody Map
The local facility map separates the case location from confinement. Magistrate Court and the Sheriff are in Pocahontas County. TVRJCF, the primary regional-jail path, is in Randolph County. Denmar is a state prison physically inside Pocahontas County, yet its residents may have been sentenced elsewhere.
This distinctive pattern makes three fields essential: arresting agency, case court, and physical institution. A fourth field, receiving destination, resolves whether the person entered the community or another custody system. Search each source for the fact it owns.
Magistrate Court is thus an anchor for the initial legal record, not a detention site. Its bond and misdemeanor orders can explain why custody should change. The WVDCR movement proves whether and when that change occurred.
