Information You Submit
A name, place, or other term entered in a search box is delivered to the third-party provider that operates that tool. We do not store or log those search terms on our own systems. The provider applies its own privacy practices, so review its notice before submitting personal details.
If you send an email or contact message, we keep the information needed to read and answer it. We do not share that correspondence outside the organization unless the law requires disclosure or sharing is needed to address the request.
Routine Technical Records
Like most websites, the service receives limited technical information when a page loads. That data helps operate the pages, protect them, and understand basic use. It may include:
- internet protocol address;
- browser name and version;
- device category and operating system;
- pages viewed and time spent on them;
- the referring site, when supplied; and
- timestamps tied to requests.
Cookies and similar tools can show how visitors move through the site. Browser controls can reject or clear cookies. Blocking them may cause some functions or outside services to behave differently.
How Data Supports the Site
Collected information is used to keep pages available, route a search to the selected partner, understand which material is useful, diagnose faults, and protect against misuse. Advertising services may also use information to select ads that fit a visitor’s likely interests.
These activities do not turn the site into a government records custodian. Official Pocahontas County, WVDCR, court, parole, probation, federal, and immigration records remain with the agencies that created them.
Outside Websites and Advertising
Links lead to jail and release sources, Sheriff and corrections pages, court portals, federal locators, and independent search tools. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination’s privacy policy controls its collection and use. We do not set those outside rules.
Some advertising companies may use their own cookies or identifiers to measure ads and activity across websites. That processing occurs through their systems, not through a Pocahontas County government database and not as an official records function of this site.
Who May Receive Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may still reach parties that perform a stated function or have a lawful right to it:
- search partners that process a submitted query;
- analytics vendors that measure site use;
- advertising networks that deliver or measure ads; and
- law-enforcement or other government bodies responding to a valid legal order.
Each service receives only the information involved in its role, subject to its own terms and applicable law.
Security Is Best Effort
Reasonable administrative and technical practices are used to guard data. No website, connected network, or transmission method is fully secure. We therefore cannot promise that information will never be intercepted, lost, or accessed without authorization.
Visitors Under Eighteen
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. A parent or guardian who believes a minor submitted information may use the Contacts page to request review and deletion.
Your Privacy Choices
Subject to applicable law and the information actually held, a person may ask for a copy of their personal data, request correction of an error, seek deletion, or object to certain processing. A request must provide enough detail to locate the relevant message or record and verify that it concerns the requester.
West Virginia public records are governed in part by the West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, including §29B-1-3 and its request process. Those government records are held by their public custodians, so a request about an official WVDCR, Sheriff, or court file must go to that office rather than this site.
Changes to This Notice
This privacy notice may be revised as site practices, vendors, or legal duties change. A new version becomes effective when posted here with an updated effective date. Continued use after an update is subject to the revised notice.
